Rubin – Dynamo – 2:1. Match report

Dynamo Kyiv will have to wait at least another year for a chance to play in the Champions League as goals from Vladimir Dyadyun and Aleksei Medvedev gave FC Rubin a 2-1 win at the Tsentralnyi stadium in Kazan on Wednesday night and completed their 4-1 aggregate victory in the third qualifying round.

The White-Blues went into the return match against Rubin needing to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit to reach the next stage of the competition. Unfortunately, this uphill task proved insurmountable, especially after they conceded a goal 19 minutes into the match. Rubin forward Vladimir Dyadyun was first to the rebound after Dynamo keeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyy parried Alan Kasaev’s long-range shot.

Yuriy Semin's men tried hard to breach Sergei Ryzhikov's goal, but all their attacking endeavours went unrewarded. With just three minutes remaining, the result was put beyond doubt when forward Aleksei Medvedev scored a second for Rubin, turning in Christian Noboa's cross. Oleh Husyev replied with a strong kick into the far corner in the second minute of added time, but it was nothing more than a mere consolation for the Kyivers.

Dynamo Kyiv will now have to hope for better fortune in the UEFA Europa League play-off round.
