Dynamo Kyiv reached the quarter final of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the second-leg of their Round of 16 tie in Manchester on Thursday evening. Even though the goal from defender Aleksandar Kolarov condemned Yuriy Semin's side to their first loss in 2011, the result must be considered as a positive, as Dynamo’s Europa League trip continues…
Yuriy Semin’s side went into this crunch game with a two-goal advantage from their first-leg victory in Kyiv. With 36 minutes played they found themselves in even more favorable position as ManCity were reduced to ten men following Balotelli's dismissal for a high tackle on Goran Popov. Kolarov, however, revived his team's hopes of progression three minutes later, when he sent David Silva’s free-kick low into the bottom corner.
Mostly it was Manchester, who did the pressing after the interval. In search for a much-needed second goal, Mancini's men proceeded to cause Dynamo's back line problems. The Kyivers, meantime, found their rhythm, trying to find the back of ManCity's net through Yarmolenko, Vukojević and Harmash. With the end of the match approaching, the Blues poured forward, but luckily they failed to score the second goal, mostly thanks to superb saves from Dynamo goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyy.
