Dynamo Kyiv resumed their Europa League campaign on Thursday with a trip to Istanbul and took a giant stride towards the Round of 16 with a 1-4 win over struggling Beşiktaş JK.
Yuriy Semin’s men took the lead after 27 minutes, as Shevchenko diverted a corner for Ognjen Vukojević to send it past Hakan Arıkan. The hosts, however, drew level just ten minutes later through Quaresma.
Dynamo increased the pressure after the interval and had some good scoring opportunities before Shevchenko headed in from another corner in the 50th minute. Ayila Yussuf then grabbed the third, sending Oleh Husyev’s deflected header into the net. And in the 90th minute, Oleh Husyev completed the rout from the spot after being fouled in the box by Beşiktaş goalkeeper.
The Turkish side’s misery was compounded with the dismissal of Quaresma on the stroke of full-time for violent conduct against Dynamo midfielder Denys Harmash. That means the Portuguese will not feature in the second leg next Thursday.
A satisfying night for the White-Blues and a three-goal margin before next week’s return fixture at the Lobanovskyy Dynamo stadium in Kyiv.
