Recalling all those contests we’d like to draw your attention to their most significant dates and events.
First goal in the World Cup qualification was netted by Dynamo performer on July 27 1957 inUSSR home fixture against Finland (2:1) by Yuriy Voinov.
Voinov is also the first Kyivans’ player, who got an assist to his name within the World Cup finals (1958).
Valeriy Porkuian is the first to hit the target at the Mundial.
That happened on July 20 1966 as USSR faced Chile (2:1).
Porkuian is the first Kyivan to score brace at the World Cup. He did that in the same game.
USSR played the first qualifier in Kyiv on October 15 1969 (against Turkey – 3:0).
Another significant event took place as USSR featured against Mexico within the 1970 World Cup. Anatoliy Puzach became the first player to make a substitute appearance after this rule was introduced.
Serhiy Rebrov became the first Dynamo player to score for Ukraine national team at the World Cup (against Saudi Arabia in 2006).
On October 30 1997 eleven Kyivans performed for Ukraine against Germany, which became the record for official fixtures.
The biggest number of appearances of USSR in qualifying rounds made Oleh Blokhin (18).
Oleh Husiev is Dynamo leader according to the number of appearances for Ukraine national team in the Mundial qualifiers (29).
Andriy Yarmolenko netted the biggest number goals for Ukraine in qualifiers among Kyivans. Andriy Shevchenko hit the target much more often, but as AC Milan or Chelsea FC representative.
Ihor Belanov is the only Soviet player, who scored a hat trick in the World Cup finals.
Olexandr Shovkovskyi is the only goalkeeper, who didn’t concede a single goal in penalty shootout at the World Cup.
