History

FC Oțelul is Romanian football club found in 1964 in Galați.

In 2004 FC Oțelul became the Romanian Cup runner-ups. In the final match they were defeated by FC Dinamo Bucuresti.

Three years later FC Oțelul won the UEFA Intertoto Cup and qualified to the UEFA Cup!

In 2011 representatives of Galați won the Romanian Liga I and qualified to the UEFA Champions League. Till now it’s the greatest success of FC Oțelul. In 2011 they also won the Romanian Suprecup.

Coach

In January 2013 Romanian coach Petre Grigoraş signed contract with FC Oțelul.

During his career he played for lots of different clubs from Romania and Bulgaria and scored 107 goals in 317 matches.

In 2000 he started working as coach in FC Farul Constanţa. His last working place was CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu.

Current position

Currently FC Oțelul are on the 13th position in Romanian Liga I. Last summer the club had serious financial problems. Still they were successfully solved.

During the winter break the best forward of the team Marius Pena (18 appearances, 5 goals) moved to FC Baku (Azerbaijan). As for the Argentinean attacking halfback Gabriel Viglianti (17 appearances, 5 goals), he finished his career being 33.

 

At the moment the best striker of Grigoraş men is 28-year old Frenchman Bruce Inkango (13 appearances, 5 goals). His competitor will be the newcomer Victoras Astafei.

Special attention should be paid to the 24-year attacking halfback Laurentiu Iorga. In the current season he made 20 appearances and scored four goals.

During the winter transfer window 11 new footballers came to FC Oțelul and 13 more came from different clubs where they played on loan!  

FC Oțelul is the club where ex-Dynamo midfielder Florin Cernat started his career.

The Marbella Cup match between FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Oțelul starts on February 4 at 17.00.
