Dynamo Kyiv secured a 3-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Super Cup match in Poltava on Tuesday night to lift their first trophy of the new season 2011/2012.
The White-Blues went ahead with just five minutes on the clock when Oleh Husyev scored from the penalty spot after Andriy Yarmolenko was fouled inside the box by Shakhtar defender Yaroslav Rakytskyy. However, it didn’t take too long for the Pitmen to respond. Fernandinho pulled one back after just nine minutes, sending in Darijo Srna's corner.
One of the most active players on the pitch was Dynamo newcomer Haruna Lukman. The 20-year-old player, who joined our club from AS Monaco last month, had at least two perfect chances to score on his debut. Hopefully, we’ll see his first goal for Dynamo in one of the upcoming matches.
Meantime, Senegalese defender Pape Diakhaté, who returned to Kyiv after a season-long loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais, restored Dynamo's lead in the 32nd minute, when he headed in Oleh Husyev's pinpoint free-kick.
The second half was as tense as the first, with Shakhtar applying all their efforts in search for another equaliser. The White-Blues, however, withstood a sustained spell of late pressure, and indeed increased their lead on the counterattack through Artem Milevskyy seven minutes from time to claim the fifth Ukrainian Super Cup in Dynamo's history.
