Olexandr SHOVKOVSKYI: “To change the world one must be able to change himself”

- Where did you spend your vacation? Have you managed to recondition?

- I’ve had good rest and I guess I’ve managed to recondition considering that I didn’t actually expend much energy. Still it was rather hard psychologically as I had to recover from injury in the second part of the season. As for my vacation, I spent it in Italy. It’s already a tradition for me.

- Did triumph in the Ukrainian Cup become a kind of compensation for the bad season?

- It didn’t. It’s just a good episode, which lets us look forward with optimism. Considering changes which have been made in the club everyone expects the team to keep demonstrating the dedication like in the latest matches.

- It’s still not clear what the format of the new UPL will be like. Does it bother you?

- I care only about things I can change. I can change only my physical conditions and atmosphere in the team.

- Does it matter to you where the Ukrainian Super Cup will take place?

- We can play in Lviv, Kyiv or Poltava. Anyway we must play for supporters.

- Doesn’t the situation in the country prevent you from focusing on football?

- Frankly speaking it does. I can’t be indifferent to what’s going on at my home. My country is my home, my motherland. I really care and try to help. We believe that the situation will change for better soon.

- Have presidential elections given you extra optimism?

- I hope that people who are in charge of the country will make Ukraine peaceful. On the other hand we all must help them with our work and attitude. To change the world one must be able to change himself.

- Could you please comment upon the prolongation of your contract with Dynamo?

- Before discussing this issue with Dynamo president I talked to the coaching staff. I’ll do my best for the club.

- Do you follow the World Cup in Brazil?

- I do as possible. Anyway I watched the game between Brazil and Croatia.

- Whom do you consider to be the Mundial favorite?

- Despite the defeat against the Netherlands Spain are still among the favorites. Anything is possible at such contests.

- Do you pay special attention to goalkeepers’ play?

- Sure! I rarely watch matches just as spectator. I try to analyze every game from the professional point of view.

- There will be many young performers at the first Dynamo training camp. How are you going to help them? Do youngsters give year to more experienced players?

- You can influence someone only if he wants to. Personally I’m almost 40, but I realize that I still don’t know a lot and I accept any information. Problems occur if you start thinking that you know everything.

- How can you estimate your physical conditions? Are you ready to work without any restrictions?

- I think I am. At leas I hope so (smiling).
