The 2022/23 Champions League 2nd qualifying round second leg between Fenerbahce SK and FC Dynamo Kyiv has finished in Istanbul.
Mircea Lucescu didn’t make any substitutions in the starting lineup comparing with the previous match, but later he had to replace Verbic with Vanat as Benjamin got injured.
Turkish side won a corner in their first attack that resulted in danger. Yuksek obtained the ball and missed.
Later Valencia rushed through the left side, put a low cross and King sent the ball into the net, but referee disallowed this goal as Valencia fouled against Zabarnyi before.
Dynamo didn’t unleash a single shot on goal in the first half. Fenerbahce were close to the goal several times. Valencia attempted with a header after free kick, but missed. After another free kick Kahveci hit the post. King was one-on-one with Bushchan after Popov’s mistake, but missed the open goal. Then Bushchan saved Dynamo after Valencia’s shot from a tight angle.
Dynamo had their first promising counterattack half an hour into the game. Tsyhankov obtained the ball in the right wing, entered Fenerbahce penalty area, Bayindir rushed forward and made Viktor fall, but referee didn’t award penalty.
After the break, the game continued in the same manner. Fenerbahce attacked actively. Valencia and King unleashed dangerous shots.
In the 54th minute, Yuksek fouled against Buialskyi got his second booking and was sent off.
Three minutes later Dynamo scored. Tsyhankov passed to Kedziora, Tomasz put a low cross and Buialskyi hit the target.
Things got very emotional and referee had to calm players down with yellow cards. In the 70th minute, Popov fouled against Valencia inside the box and referee awarded penalty for Fenerbahce, but Bushchan parried Valencia’s shot from the spot. Later Heorhiy performed another great save and didn’t let the ball hit the upper V.
Anyway, Fenerbahce succeeded late in the game. Szalai headed the ball in after cross from the corner flag.
The White-Blues were close to the goal in extra time. Vanat didn’t use his opportunity, then Bayindir cleared the strike by Shepelev. Zabarnyi was in a promising position twice, but missed both times.
The second extra time half was marked with the debut official appearance of Vivcharenko for Dynamo first team. This substitution and the appearance of Karavayev 15 minutes before turned out to be decisive. Kostiantyn put a low cross from the left side, defenders didn’t manage to clear the ball and Karavayev made it 2:1!
In the last minute, Bushchan demonstrate his class again as he reached the ball after header by Dursun.
So, Dynamo qualify for the Champions League third qualifying round. They’ll face the Austrian side SK Sturm Graz. The first leg will take place on August 3 in Poland while the second one – on August 9 in Graz.
