It was the Dutch side 50th match at the Mundial and chance to win bronze for the first time ever.
Oranje became the World Cup runners-up three times (1974, 1978 and 2010) and were defeated by Croatia in their only bronze medal match (1998).
This time the Netherlands got medals as they were victorious against Brazilians.
68,034 spectators at the Estádio Nacional witnessed another Seleção defeat – 0:3.
Goals were netted by Robin van Persie, Daley Blind and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Jeremain Lens didn’t take the field, but he took part in four other matches.
After the game he stated: “It was a great honour for me to become the part of this contest! I’ll remember it forever! I’m proud to be Dutch”.
