From “Urozhai” to distinguished general
Before the erection of central arena of Poltava there was a playground for amateurs on its place.
The home ground of FC Vorskla Poltava was built in 1951 and named Urozhai (Harvest). Its capacity was 7,500.
In 1956 the stadium was named Kolhospnyk (Collective farmer) and seven more years later – Kolos. Eventually in 1990 the arena got its current name Vorskla.
In 2008 they added the name of famous sports activist, army general and scientist Olexiy Butovskyi to the name of the stadium.

The main arena of Poltava was reconstructed regularly since the moment of its erection. As a result its capacity increased and decreased constantly. In 1957 the stadium had enough seats for 17,000 spectators, in 1968 – for 32,000 and nowadays – for 24,586.
One floor and 34 sectors
The grandstand consists of 34 sectors. In general it’s a typical Soviet one-floor stadium with athletic track.
Memorable both for Dynamo and Shakhtar
In 2008 FC Dynamo Kyiv played against FC Shakhtar Donetsk within the Ukrainian Super Cup at this arena.
Donetsk side won that game on penalties. The referee of the match was Wolfgang Stark.
Three years later the White-Blues faced Shakhtar at the same stadium again and won the Super Cup – 3:1 (watch video).
Location
Vorskla Stadium is located in the city center in front of a park and a number of higher educational establishments.
Do you know that… On July 5 2011 Dynamo won their last trophy in Poltava.
