European championship qualifying campaign start was a failure for the Yellow-Blues as our team lost against Slovakia (0:1). Still after that defeat Andriy stated: “We did our best… Each player fought for the country. Unfortunately that happens. In the previous World Cup qualification we lost against Montenegro the same way. They defended and used a counterattack. That’s okay, we have nine more games”.
Eventually Ukraine faced Slovenia in play-off round and qualified for Euro-2016 finals.
Yarmolenko (height – 189 cm, weight – 81 kg) was probably the best player of our team. He made 12 appearances (1055 minutes), scored six goals and got three assists to his name. He’s Ukraine best striker in qualification. Two of his goals Andriy scored in decisive games against Slovenia!
Andriy is sure Ukraine are ready to oppose best teams of the continent: “I think each player has great responsibility when he performs for the national team. We’ll all do what we can on the field. We have good balance of youth and experience, so I guess our horizons are pretty good”.
Our leader has a recipe for that: “Journalists say Ukraine can only keep the lower profile on the pitch. I disagree. We can find space and create chances. We must avoid silly mistakes. Teamwork and discipline can help us defeat anyone”.
Now it’s time to give fans the floor.
