Miguel’s milestone appearance, Portugal horrible start at 2014 World Cup

In the group G opening fixture Seleção faced one of the mundial favorites – Germany. The game took place in Salvador at the Arena Forte Nova. 51,081 supporters were present at the stadium.

12 minutes into the match referee Milorad Mažić awarded penalty for Germans and Thomas Müller converted from the spot.

That wasn’t the last goal of the game for Bayern Munich striker, but at first Mats Hummels headed the ball in.

That happened 32 minutes into the game and five minutes later Serbian referee sent Portuguese centre back Pepe off.

Müller netted Germany third goal before the break and in the second half Thomas completed the hat trick – 4:0.

As for Miguel, he featured in the midfield alongside Raul Meireles and João Moutinho. Still after the break defender Ricardo Costa took his place as Portugal played outnumbered.

That was Miguel’s 50th appearance for the national team.

On June 23 at 01:00 (Kyiv time) Portugal will face the USA.
