The idea of this tournament came from the Netherlands. The initiative belongs to De Telegraaf newspaper journalist Anton Witkamp. Later he became the head of sports department of this periodical. He confessed that he came up with this contest to glorify AFC Ajax and Johan Cruyff.
More than 650 thousand people wanted to see the battle between FC Dynamo Kyiv and Bayern Munich on October 6 1975!
A day before the game German delegation arrived in the capital of Ukraine. They were staying at Kyiv hotel.
100,000 spectators came to the Republican Stadium. Only about fifty of them supported Bayern.
German media called the goal scored by Oleh Blokhin 40 minutes into the match the strike of Kyiv hammer!
When teams took the field after the break and visitors saw Oleh Blokhin they started applauding!
53 minutes into the game Blokhin took a free kick and made the score 2:0!
After awarding ceremony the White-Blues took the huge cup to their locker room and filled it with champagne.
After the match UEFA president Artemio Franchi named Dynamo the best team in Europe!
That victory is still the only triumph of the kind for Ukrainian clubs.
