- In 1974 we won the USSR Cup and Soviet Top League under the charge of Valeriy Lobanovskyi. Players had mutual understanding. Things got interesting when we outplayed CSCA and Eintracht!
When we had a warm-up before the game at the stadium in Basel we saw Ferencvarosi bus arrive. Hungarian side performers stood in front of the fence and followed us. Valeriy Lobanovskyi told us to do some speed exercises and we did. As we were leaving the field it was noticeable that Ferencvarosi were afraid of us.
Early in the game both teams were careful. We followed the plan. At first Onyshchenko took the lead and then Blokhin did.
At the dinner after the match coach Boškov came up to me. He spoke Russian a bit and said: “Take 100 dollars for you, 100 for Blokhin and 100 for Onyshchenko. We want you to play for Europe all-star team”. Unfortunately the game against Rest of the World XI was cancelled.
