Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s men raised Dynamo reputation to the new level and became a landmark for further generations.
Volodymyr Veremeev, Dynamo halfback in 1975, tells about that “golden” period of his career eagerly.
- The year 1975 for Dynamo was the result of success we reached in 1974 on home arena. Thus we qualified for the Cup Winners’ Cup. Super Cup battles against Bayern Munich were special. At that time participation in this tournament wasn’t obligatory.
It was the 30th anniversary since the end of the war, so USSR government couldn’t let Dynamo lose against Germans. Still eventually we were given green light. Our young coaches Valeriy Lobanovskyi and Oleh Bazylevych could deprive us of complexes about Western clubs.
This purposefulness and confidence let us become the best team of the world in 1975 according to one of the leading football magazines.
That year 12-13 players were Dynamo and USSR first team regulars. Best Soviet Union performers featured for Kyivans at that time.
The year 1975 was almost ideal. The only thing I would have changed is my red card in the semifinal against PSV. Performed a sliding tackle, but didn’t even touch the opponent. Still he fell down screaming and referee showed me the second booking. Thus I missed the final.
I was asked to make some photos as at that time journalists didn’t travel abroad with the team.
