After 2:3 defeat against the Netherlands and 2:1 win against North Macedonia, Andriy Shevchenko’s men faced Austria in Bucharest. Draw was enough for our team to 100% qualify for the round of 16, but the Yellow-Blues lost 0:1. The only goal was scored on the first half.
Austria started more aggressively and Heorhiy Bushchan had to save the team a few times. Austrian’s efforts resulted in goal in the 21st minute. After cross from the corner by Alaba, Baumgartner headed the ball in – 1:0. The White-Blues attempted to respond. Shaparenko unleashed the strike from inside the box, but goalkeeper parried it.
Ukrainians were doing their best to equalize after the break, but Austria neutralized all their efforts.
So, the Yellow-Blues finish third in their group. Now it’s all in other teams’ hands. As you know, four best teams that finish third also qualify for the round of 16.
