Ukraine left behind the World Cup

Andriy Shevchenko’s men hosted Croatia at the NSC Olimpiyskyi in Kyiv. Both sides had 17 points before this game and needed only victory to keep struggling for the right to go to the Mundial.

The Yellow-Blues head coach included two FC Dynamo Kyiv performers into the starting lineup – centre back Yevhen Khacheridi and halfback Denys Harmash. Another Dynamo representative – defender Domagoj Vida – was among the Blazers’ first eleven. Josip Pivaric made a substitute appearance 86 minutes into the match.

Both teams started the game carefully. Ukrainians were better in terms of possession, but visitors also attacked when occasion offered. Anyway, the Yellow-Blues created more chances.

Nothing changed rapidly after the break, but one opportunity was enough for Croatia to open the score 62 minutes into the game. Kramaric headed the ball in after cross from Modric.

69 minutes into the match Dynamo midfielder Serhiy Sydorchuk substituted Ruslan Rotan, but soon Croatia doubled the score. Kramaric hit the target again.

Later Artem Besedin took the field, but didn’t manage to do anything special.

So, Ukraine finish third in their group and don’t reach the World Cup finals.
