History
FC Torpedo Kutaisi was found in 1946. In 1961 Georgian side won Class B Soviet League and qualified to the Top League.
In general FC Torpedo Kutaisi played for 14 seasons in Soviet Top League (443 games, +107=129-207, goal difference 402:659). In 1985 they finished 11th. This was the best achievement for Georgians.
Dynamo Kyiv faced Torpedo Kutaisi 25 times. Kyivans won 16 games, Torpedo – 3. 6 matches ended in a draw.
When the Georgian Top League was formed in 1990 Torpedo got the new name – Kutaisi. But 3 years later they were renamed back.
FC Torpedo Kutaisi have 3 consequent wins in Georgian League (2000, 2001, 2002). They also won the Georgian Cup in 1999 and 2001.
In 2005 FC Torpedo Kutaisi were disbanded. Two years later the new team Kutaisi Torpedo relegated because of financial problems. In 2008/09 season Kutaisi municipal authorities formed another club called Torpedo 2008. In 2010/11 season FC Torpedo Kutaisi got the initial name and returned to Georgian Top League.
One of the most well-known players of Torpedo Kutaisi was Rezo Chokhonelidze who is currently the general director of Dynamo Kyiv!
Coach
Georgian manager Gia Geguchadze was signed by Torpedo Kutaisi in October 2011. In 2010/11 season he won Georgian Top League with FC Zestafoni.
In 2011/12 season FC Torpedo Kutaisi finished 4th in the national league. One year later they finished 3rd and qualified to Europa League.
