The two teams last met on Sep 22 this year in the Ukrainian League game, this becoming their 32nd domestic league encounter. The Ukrainian Cup, however, had brought the opponents into competitive format as few as three times.
In the 1994-95 season, the teams were drawn against each other to play in a quarter-final. Tavriya had the better of the meetings, winning 1-0 in Kyiv and 2-1 in Simferopol. In a second leg the team won through Oleksandr Holovko’s only goal.
The competitors met again at this phase the following year. Dynamo took revenge, winning 1-0 in a then one-legged tie to later win the final. Again, it was Oleksandr Holovko, who had joined Dynamo by then, who fired his team into the semi-final.
