The Champions League round of 16 first leg will take place at the NSC Olimpiyskyi on February 24. Though it’s winter the turf of the stadium is perfect.
NSC Olimpiyskyi director of external relations Viktor Anisimov has told what the winter was like for the pitch.
- Olimpiyskyi turf was put in 2011 after reconstruction. Its useful time is unlimited. Today it has different grass. The field meets all UEFA demands. The stadium has all the necessary equipment to take care of it.
Autumn and winter of the last season was very intense. We had two home teams here – Dynamo and Dnipro. In some cases other club used the stadium as their home arena. It was a serious test for the turf.
Second part of the season started early – in mid-February. We had to melt snow that covered the field. In February two teams played their Europa League fixtures here.
This season we didn’t have late matches and the weather was perfect. At first we warmed the turf and then 15-20 cm of snow covered it.
Today have a kind of artificial sun here. This equipment is very expensive. Besides we’ve already shaved the lawn twice this month.
NSC Olimpiyskyi turf is perfectly ready for the second part of the season!
