Nagelsmann was born in Landsberg am Lech, not far from Munich. He’s always been Bayern fan. Julian had to finish his career of player before it actually started. On youth level, Nagelsmann featured as defender for 1860 Munich and FC Augsburg, but when he was 19, knee injury put paid to his horizons.
Julian was studying business administration and sports sciences after which returned to Augsburg and joined the team of head coach Thomas Tuchel. He was responsible for scouting and information accumulation. Young specialist considers Tuchel to be his teacher. At the age of 26, Nagelsmann became 1899 Hoffenheim assistant coach. Later he was in charge of the youth team he won the league with.
Upon starting his coaching career, Nagelsmann was setting one record after another. He became the youngest coach in Bundesliga as he took charge of Hoffenheim being 28 years old. Not only did he save the team from relegation. In a year, he helped the Blue-Whites achieve the best result in their history – fourth place in Bundesliga. In 2016, he became the Bundesliga best coach. In 2017/18 season, Hoffenheim finished third in domestic league and qualified for the Champions League group stage.
In 2019, Nagelsmann took charge of RB Leipzig. In his first year, the team won the Bundesliga bronze while in 2020/21 season they became the Bundesliga runners-up.
Besides, Leipzig reached the Champions League semifinals. They won the group opposing Lyon, Benfica and Zenit. They also outplayed Tottenham and Atletico Madrid. In historic semifinals, Nagelsmann faced PSG with Thomas Tuchel as gaffer and lost 3:0. Notably, Julian became the youngest coach to reach this Champions League stage.
In April of 2021, Julian Nagelsmann signed 5-year-contract with Bayern and replaced Hans-Dieter Flick.
At the moment, Nagelsmann is 34. He’s younger than Bayern team captain Manuel Neuer. Julian represents the new coaching school that sets trends on the football field and outside it. Nagelsmann uses statistics and analytical data, innovational methods, modern technologies and gadgets. He often comes to training sessions on e-skateboard.
Teams of Julian Nagelsmann always have aggressive and effective attack and orderly defense. In Bayern, he’s managed to demonstrate his attacking style with total possession and high press to the full extent. This season, Nagelsmann’s men lost points only by drawing against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the following match they won the national Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund. Since then, they win every game and score at least three goals per match.
