Mikkel was born in Aarhus. Until 2013 he was Aarhus AGF academy player.
Eventually he got several transfer offers from famous clubs including PSV. Despite that, Duelund decided to stay in Denmark and joined FC Midtjylland U-19 team. That season he won U-19 league with his new team and became its best striker. He was regularly called up to national youth teams.
In 2014 The Guardian included Mikkel into the list of 40 best young players of the world.
That year Duelund made his debut for Midtjylland first team. In 2015/16 season he became the first team regular.
In 2014/15 season Mikkel mostly made substitute appearances, but got the Danish league golden medal. Nest time he did it in 2017/18 season.
Duelund is a versatile player, so coach can use him in several positions. Still his favourite position is left attacking halfback. He has great goal-scoring flair.
