FC Dynamo Kyiv player Oleksandr Karavayev, who scored against FC Shakhtar Donetsk, has commented upon the game (1:1):
- Things were tough today. We played worse than we can, especially in the first half. That shouldn’t be the case. We must stick to our principles. We’ll analyze the game to avoid such mistakes in future.
- Last time you faced Shakhtar, Dynamo were in need of points unlike today?
- Right, we needed only victory, so we rushed forward straight away. I’m not saying we were trying to preserve a draw today. We wanted to win, but things went wrong. We’ll make conclusions. Fortunately we equalized.
- Before the game a soldier with a flag of Ukraine came up to you…
- He said he came from the frontline. I saw tears in his eyes. He gave me that flag and said I would score. That’s what I did. I promised him my jersey.
- Did you expect you would score when you were taking the field?
- I did. I really wanted to score as I’d never done that against Shakhtar in 28 games in played against them. Today I scored my way.
- Shakhtar had more chances in the first half. Then they scored briefly after the break. Did that goal ruin your plans?
- Fore sure. We wanted to win, not to concede. Probably it’s a good thing we conceded early in the second half as we had quite enough time left. We must switch things on at once, not after we concede.
- Did the red card impact the game?
- Absolutely. Things got easier. You just need to use that in such a case. Passions are intense in such games. No one wants to lose, but one must stick to the rules.
- Your next game is the Cup tie against Vorskla. What do you expect of that?
- It’s a Cup, not a league, which says it all. We had unfortunate experience last season as we lost against Obolon. But that’s history already. Dynamo always aim to win the league and the Ukrainian Cup.
