Undefeated. Take four

FC Dynamo Kyiv won the 2024/2025 Ukrainian Premier League without a single defeat. The White-Blues won 20 games out of 20 and played in a draw 10 times (goal difference – 61:19). Thus they on the title having 70 points with FC Oleksandria three points behind.

This is the fourth time since Independence that Dynamo managed to finish the season undefeated. In this article, we recall previous cases.

Season 1999/2000

Champions – Dynamo (coach – Valerii Lobanovskyi: 27 wins, 3 draws, goal difference – 85:18, 84 points

The season began with a loss of points for Dynamo. Valerii Lobanovskyi’s men drew against Kryvbas away in the matchday 1 game (1:1). But then Dynamo put on an impressive streak of 12 wins, securing themselves at the top of the table. The loss of two points in the away game against Shakhtar (0:0) didn’t affect the confident positions of the White-Blues, who later won ten games in a row. The third and last team that managed to take points away from Dynamo that season were Chornomorets (2:2) in the matchday 25. Thus, Kyiv side won their eighth consecutive league title quite confidently, ahead of Shakhtar, who finished second, by 18 points.

Season 2006/2007

Champions – Dynamo (coach – Anatolii Demianenko: 22 wins, 8 draws, goal difference – 67:23, 74 points

The start of the season turned out to be tough for Dynamo. The White-Blues kept pace with their main competitor for gold medals, the champions of the last two years – Shakhtar – for quite a while. Up to the matchday 10 inclusive, Kyiv and Donetsk sides lost points only once.

After the failure from Shakhtar in matchday 11 game against Arsenal-Kyiv (0:1) and the head-to-head victory over the Miners in the matchday 13 (1:0), Kyivans broke away from the competitors by comfortable six points. But already in the matchday 18, the advantage was only two points after Dynamo draws against Karpaty (1:1) and Kryvbas (1:1).

However, the end of the season was a success for Dynamo. Although the White-Blues weren’t impressive in the last eight games (5 wins, 3 draws), Shakhtar did even worse (2 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats) which ultimately determined Dynamo solid advantage in the table.

Season 2014/2015

Champions – Dynamo (coach – Serhii Rebrov: 20 wins, 6 draws, goal difference – 65:12, 66 points

Dynamo were approaching the start of the league campaign having a failed previous season behind them, in which the White-Blues finished fourth for the first time in independent Ukraine. Dynamo major opponents were traditionally Shakhtar, champions of the last five seasons, as well as strong Metalist and Dnipro.

Start of the season wasn’t a success for Dynamo. In the first six games, Serhiy Rebrov’s men lost points twice (draws against Olimpik – 0:0 and Zoria – 2:2), while Shakhtar were moving without a single fail. Everything changed in matchdays 7 and 8. Shakhtar defeats against Zoria (0:1) and Dynamo (0:1) brought Kyivans to the lead. And Donetsk side sensational defeat against their compatriots from Metalurh (1:2) increased the White-Blues’ advantage to five points.

Afterwards, Serhiy Rebrov’s team maintained a comfortable advantage over their main pursuer, and before the end of the season, taking advantage of the Shakhtar failures, they increased it to a comfortable plus ten.

Season 2024/2025

Champions – Dynamo (coach – Oleksandr Shovkovskyi: 20 wins, 10 draws, goal difference – 61:19, 70 points

This season is still fresh in the memory of fans. For the first time in many years, Dynamo were fighting for gold not against Shakhtar, but against another club.

Starting with the opening games, Oleksandria from the town of the same name in the Kirovohrad region outlined their ambitions to compete for the highest places, and for four matchdays with a one hundred percent score kept pace with Dynamo.

Later, the teams of Oleksandr Shovkovskyi and Ruslan Rotan, simultaneously lost points, and only in the middle of the season did Dynamo manage to break away from competitor thanks to a victory in the head-to-head match (3:0). Afterwards, the White-Blues’ advantage only increased, and even the loss of points in the final games didn’t prevent Dynamo from securing the gold ahead of schedule, with one matchday to go.
