FC Dynamo Kyiv faced SS Lazio in Hamburg in the Europa League main stage matchday 1 game.
The White-Blues’ gaffer made two substitutions in the starting lineup comparing with the previous game against FC Rukh Lviv (0:0) – Dubinchak and Pikhalionok replaced Vivcharenko and Buialskyi.
Dynamo had a chance early in the game as Vanat rushed into the penalty area down the left side, but was stopped by two defenders.
Meanwhile visitors opened the score in the 4th minute. Kyivans didn’t clear the ball properly and Pedro found Dia, who hit the corner from inside the box – 0:1.
Dynamo got more active. The shot by Kabayev was inaccurate. Tymchyk and Dubinchak were crossing frequently into the penalty area. Halfway through the first half Ceballos got injured and substituted with Bilovar.
Shaparenko took a promising free kick from the left wing, but nobody touched the ball after his cross and goalkeeper grabbed it.
And then, within two minutes, Lazio basically closed the game. At first Vecino sent Dele-Bashiru one-on-one with Bushchan and the halfback made it 0:2.
Then Dele-Bashiru put a cross from the right side and Dia headed the ball in – 0:3.
Dynamo had some opportunities at least to pull one back, but Lazio keeper Provedel was doing great job. He parried the strikes by Pikhalionok, Brazhko, Vanat and Yarmolenko.
Kyiv side gaffer didn’t make any substitutions right after the break. The White-Blues were visibly willing to decrease the gap at least, but couldn’t. Provedel parried the strike from distance by Brazhko while Pedro hit the post being one-on-one with Bushchan.
In the 72nd minute Braharu was sent off for allegedly rough tackle, but 20 minutes later the squads got even again as Noslin got a red as well.
So, it’s 0:3 – bitter defeat early in the Europa League campaign.
