FFU Honorary President has told “Football club” about that.
- Recent events have demonstrated that Ukrainian security system at football matches has problems. Is there a way out?
- Unfortunately we face this issue again and again. Do you remember fans running to the NSC Olimpiyskyi turf last season? One must work 24/7 to cope with such problems. We need more effective measures to prevent violence.
Not long ago Ukraine hosted Euro-2012 and had no security problems. We must use this experience and enrich it with latest methods.
The existing security system is outdated and it must be reconsidered.
- Do you mean legislation changes?
- That’s right. Recently they adopted the law aiming to struggle against corruption in sports. That means that our parliament is able to do that. Now it’s time to take care of the legal responsibility of fans.
- Can’t current legislation guarantee order at our stadiums?
- Today punishments for unlawful acts at football stadiums are ridiculous. Someone rushes to the pitch during the match broadcasted on national TV and gets only insignificant fine for that. Someone beats other people and often avoids punishment at all.
- Don’t you think that more strict punishments can turn into a kind of war against fans?
- I’m not saying that fans mustn’t have any rights. Still everyone must understand that there’s a world of difference between “drunk race” in the street and on the stadium turf. So the responsibility must be also different.
- What else is necessary except more strict legislation?
- People that arrange football matches and security need more effective mechanisms of abusers identification. That will help Ukraine ratify EU Council sport events security convention.
