FC Dynamo Kyiv won their thirteenth Ukrainian Premier League title on Sunday night after Oleksandr Aliyev's stoppage-time free-kick earned a 3-2 victory against SC Tavriya Simferopol.
The club from the capital of Ukraine has an unassailable twelve-point lead over European conquerors FC Shakhtar Donetsk with four matches remaining. Nonetheless, they were made to work hard for their victory by a spirited display from the visitors.
Coming into the game on the back of Thursday's disappointing UEFA Cup semi-final defeat by the Miners, Dynamo started the match looking as if they had no motivation. Former Dynamo player Lucky Idahor put the Simferopol side into a third-minute lead and while midfielder Tiberiu Ghioane levelled for Dynamo in the second half, Tavriya’s defender Anton Monakhov restored their advantage just two minutes later. However, Andriy Nesmachnyy equalised with a quarter of an hour to go and Ukrainian international Aliyev then earned Dynamo their 23rd win in 27 league matches.
