Illichivets joined the Ukrainian Vyshcha Liha in the 1997/1998 season. It was previously called FC Metalurh Mariupol. The name of the club was changed to Illichivets during the winter break in the 2002/2003 season. The first match against Dynamo was held in 1997 August 4th. It was ended with the White-Вlues’ victory 3:0. The most prolific match was played in Kyiv in 1999/2000 as Dynamo defeated Illichivets (Metalurh) 6:1.
