FC Dynamo Kyiv confirmed their participation in the UEFA Cup with a 1-0 victory against Fenerbahçe SK on Wednesday.
With midfielder Olexandr Aliyev suspended, Florin Cernat took over his position, playing behind strikers Artem Milevskyy and Ismaёl Bangoura while Andriy Nesmachniy replaced injured Badr El Kaddouri as left-back for Dynamo. Luis Aragonés fielded his usual 4-2-3-1 formation, with Deivid, Alex and Uğur Boral supporting lone forward Daniel Güiza. Burak Yılmaz, Kazim Kazim and Emre Belözoğlu were among notable absentees for the Yellow Canaries.
Fenerbahçe's hopes of progressing to the UEFA Cup took a blow on 20 minutes as Dynamo Kyiv went in front via a Roman Eremenko strike. Artem Milevskyy's superb pass found Eremenko on the edge of the area and as Volkan rushed from his line to pressure the midfielder, Roman poke underneath the keeper into the unguarded net. Maldonado's late dismissal added to Fenerbahçe's frustration, but Dynamo had already done enough to join Ukrainian rivals FC Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Metalist Kharkiv in the UEFA Cup Round of 32.
