The club was founded on June 18 2004. Though they were going to start featuring in the Third League they took the place of the team that didn’t manage to promote to the Premier League because of financial problems.
In 2010/11 season Zestafoni won the Georgian Premier League, Georgian Super Cup and earned the right to feature in the UEFA Champions League qualification. The following season they won the domestic title again.
Key players of the team are Brazilian Rene Ferreyra, 24-year-old Igor Pavlović and Revaz Getsadze.
According to Ferreyra Zestafoni strengths are ball control and attacking play.
The budget of the club is five million dollars.
