Doctors put in titanic efforts to save the lives of soldiers and civilians who were wounded in enemy shelling. Sometimes, they don’t even have hours to do that, but rather minutes or seconds.
The severest wounds are the shrapnel ones. Foreign bodies have to be immediately removed. However, to detect them, a doctor needs special devices.
Thus, to help Ukrainian doctors and to purchase the necessary surgical equipment in Kyiv and Berlin simultaneously at 9 p.m., on May 29, the second Save Ukraine — #StopWar TV-marathon will take place. This charity concert gathered celebrities like Okean Elzy, Tina Karol, MONATIK, Kalush Orchestra with the only aim – to draw world’s attention to the war in Ukraine and to raise money to purchase surgical C-arm X-ray machines. They are used to perform surgeries for shell splinters removal and fixating bones under X-ray control.
Doctor Yuriy Hrushka from the Chuhuiv central hospital in Kharkiv oblast explained why Ukrainian medics require these devices especially in the war time.
“Our hospital is in the first line. We mostly accept patients with gun-shot wounds, both soldiers and civilians. These devices would help us to quickly remove the life-threatening foreign bodies that could lead to further complications and that could not be seen, visually examining the wound”, – the doctor explains.
According to the surgeon, hospitals require these devices to help the wounded and to save lives because many people are getting to the hospitals with shrapnel wounds.
“Pretty much every day, we accept patients with shrapnel wounds. Most of the splinters can be seen and removed with the help of these devises. With its help, one can exactly locate the foreign body. These devices have many benefits”, – concluded Yuriy Hrushka.
The aim of the TV-marathon is to purchase devices for the hospitals in 12 regions closest to the war zone that participate in medical treatment of the wounded. For two medical facilities in every of the following regions – Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Poltava, Odesa, Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv; and for one facility in every of the following regions – Chernihiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad Oblast.
The cost of one device is about 100 thousand Euro which makes 1 million 900 thousand Euro for 19 of them.
The funds will be raised through the global initiative United 24. Every donation will automatically be transferred to the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and secured for the Ministry of Health Care.
Note, that the event will take place on May 29, on Kyiv Day. It will be dedicated to the courageous Ukrainian resistance and brave fight against Russia during the last three months.
The Save Ukraine — #StopWar TV-marathon is made possible by teams of 1+1 media, Atlas Festival and Suspilne with the support of Kyivstar, Football Club Dynamo Kyiv, Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Musicians will perform live from Kyiv and its sister city, Berlin. There, next to the Brandenburg Gate, a stage will be placed. The show will be hosted by Tymur Miroshnychenko and Masha Efrosynina. Okean Elzy, Tina Karol, The Hardkiss, MONATIK, Beissoul & Einius, Antytila, ONUKA, Kadebostany, alyona alyona and many other musicians will perform for the audience at home and on the city squares. A special guest of the event is the winner of the Eurovision 2022 the band Kalush Orchestra.
The TV-marathon will be broadcast in Ukraine on the channels 1+1, 2+2, TET, ICTV, STB, Novyy, M1, Ukraine, Ukraine24, UA:Pershyy, UA:Kultura, regional channels of public broadcasting, Inter, Rada and on the online-platforms Kyivstar TV and 1+1 Video, as well as on YouTube channels of 1+1 and Atlas Festival.
Recall that the first Save Ukraine — #StopWar TV-marathon took place on March 27 and raised over 40 million Hryvnya to help address humanitarian problems caused by the Russian war in Ukraine. Over 30 channels worldwide broadcasted it live for the audience of over 80 million people. People in over 50 cities and capitals went out to the streets to join the marathon and support Ukraine. 30 world’s political leaders spoke to the Ukrainians and to the international community. Over 17 million people were connected in a communication campaign in media and social networks.
