Kanevskyi, Bazylevych, Lobanovskyi, Biba, Muntian, Byshovets, Blokhin and Onyshchenko came before him while Shovkovskyi and Shevchenko – after.
In 1988 Mykhailychenko became FC Dynamo Kyiv only player to win the Olympic Games gold medal.
The same year he became the USSR best player. In 1985 and 1986 he won the Soviet Top League with the White-Blues. He also did that in 1990.
Having collected Italian and Scottish league trophies Olexiy Mykhailychenko helped FC Dynamo Kyiv win the Ukrainian league as a coach in 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons.
Mykhailychenko has been Dynamo sporting director since September 26 2013.
