Still that’s what Olexandr Yakovenko, who joined FC Dynamo Kyiv on February 2 2016, has chosen.
Curiously enough Olexandr, who was born in Kyiv on June 23 1987, got football education not at Dynamo academy, but at Lokomotyv football school. In 2004 Yakovenko Jr. played eight matches for FC Metalist Kharkiv and scored on goal.
The following season he started abroad – with Lierse SK. That year 18-year-old halfback made 24 appearances and netted five goals. Thus he helped Lierse win the domestic league silver and national cup.
After two seasons with KRC Genk he was signed by RSC Anderlecht. On March 13 2008 he impressed everyone with fabulous goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. In 2012/13 season he played 38 games in all competitions and scored nine goals.
Yakovenko won the Belgian league twice and used to feature for KVC Westerlo and OH Leuven on loan. In summer of 2013 he took ACF Fiorentina transfer offer. That’s that part of his career that wasn’t a success.
Olexandr started the second half of 2013/14 season on loan at Malaga CF. On February 8 2014 he scored his first goal in the La Liga. Anyway he didn’t spend much time in Spain. Still he even took part in the sparring against FC Dynamo Kyiv on February 12.
After short loan move at ADO Den Haag Yakovenko signed a contract with FC Dynamo Kyiv. The agreement will be valid till the end of the season and it can be prolonged after that.
- I’ve been supporting Dynamo since my childhood. If I had a chance to join the White-Blues earlier I would have used it.
28-year-old halfback has picked squad number 7.
- My father used to have the same squad number, so it has always been special for me.
Olexandr Yakovenko is sure he can benefit our club.
- I had both good and bad periods in every team. I think I havent reached the peak of my career yet. I hope I'll reach it with Dynamo.
