Villarreal

On March 18 FC Dynamo Kyiv faced Villarreal CF away in the Europa League round of 16 second leg.

After 2:0 home defeat a week earlier, the White-Blues needed to score at least twice at the Estadio de la Ceramica and avoid conceding herewith. Comparing with the recent UPL game against FC Zoria Luhansk (2:0 for Dynamo) Mircea Lucescu made two substitutions in the starting lineup – Rodrigues and Andriyevskyi replaced Besedin and Shaparenko.

Dynamo were keeping the lower profile and looking for chances to counterattack. Villarreal were mostly in possession. Bacca was the first to attempt, but sent the ball over the bar. Anyway, home side used the following chance: Chukwueze put a great cross into the box from the right side and Gerard Moreno headed the ball in.

After that the game got a bit slower. Villarreal controlled the situation on the field and applied pressure effectively when necessary. Eventually Moreno made it 2:0 ten minutes before the break after assist by Parejo.

Nothing really changed in the second half. Villarreal attacked and created chances while Dynamo counted on counterattacks and set pieces. Supriaha had an opportunity after which Albiol almost hit his own goal, but generally visitors had few chances after the break.

Meanwhile Bushchan had more work to do as Moreno put a cross from the wing and Kedziora almost sent the ball into Dynamo net.

So, Villarreal win 2:0 (4:0 on aggregate) and reach the Europa League quarterfinals.
