English barrier cleared! Dynamo in Europa League quarterfinal!

FC Dynamo Kyiv have defeated Everton FC at the NSC Olimpiyskyi 5:2 in the Europa League round of 16 second leg and thus reached the prestigious tournament next stage!

Both sides flattened their opponents in the domestic league before the face-to-face match and were in fine fettle approaching the battle at the main arena of our country. It should be mentioned that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was present at the Olimpiyskyi. He followed the game alongside warriors, who’ve returned from counter-terrorism operation zone.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez used usual 1-4-5-1 formation. Tim Howard was keeping the goal. Defenders were (from left to right) Baines, Jagielka, Alcaraz and Coleman. McCarthy and Barry featured as supporting halfbacks while Atsu, Barkley and Naismith – as attacking midfielders. Lukaku played as finisher.

Serhiy Rebrov’s tactical scheme was almost identical. Goalkeeper Shovkovskyi was the team captain. Antunes, Dragovic, Khacheridi and Silva formed the defensive line. Rybalka, Sydorchuk and Miguel performed in the midfield. Yarmolenko and Husiev were wingers and Teodorczyk – striker.

The game

Considering the outcome of the first leg there was no time for “developing attacks”. 21 minutes into the game Olimpiyskyi “exploded”. Yarmolenko hit the far corner from 25-mater distance!

The second part of the first half was full of goals. At first Lukaku scored with a fabulous shot from 23-meters.

The game was getting really intense. Every attack was precious for home side. 35th and 37th minutes became crucial in this situation. Two attacks, two shots and two goals! Lukasz Teodorczyk and Miguel Veloso unleashed great strikes and sent Dynamo two goals in front.

After the break Kyivans also played with confidence and motivation. Oleh Husiev and Vitorino Antunes made the score 5:1, Yarmolenko hit the bar… Goal netted by Jagielka only sugared the pill for Everton.

Every Dynamo player deserved being praised, but special attention should be paid to team work guided by Serhiy Rebrov. There wasn’t a single doubt about victory of our team. So, the White-Blues have defeated the Toffees 6:4 on aggregate and reached the Europa League quarterfinal!
