Europa League Group J

FC Dynamo Kyiv successful performances in Ukraine and on European arena offered a contrast to away defeat against Aalborg BK. That’s why it was important to gain revenge in return match from all points of view.

Kyivans came out on top in the Ukrainian Premier League standings after victory against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. That game must have satisfied Serhiy Rebrov, who didn’t change the starting lineup.

Aalborg decided to surprise home side early in the game. They started the match very actively. Kent Nielsen’s men had some scoring chances. At first Khacheridi blocked the shot of Enevoldsen and then Shovkovskyi didn’t let Thomsen hit the target.

As Danish side pressure started dying out Dynamo superiority became noticeable. Sydorchuk had a good chance, but missed from 15-meter distance.

After the break the White-Blues looked really impressive! Belhanda and Yarmolenko didn’t score in one-on-one situations. Later Kravets didn’t use a great scoring opportunity. It’s hardly possible to understand how he didn’t net the ball from six-yard box.

68 minutes into the game Aleksandar Dragović was sent off for desperate foul, but two minutes later Dynamo opened the score! Kyivans’ “magic wand” Domagoj Vida, whose goals help our team in most important matches, headed the ball in after cross Yarmolenko put from the corner flag!

After that home side let Aalborg seize the initiative and tried to use counterattacks. Mykyta Burda took the field instead of Jeremain Lens. Nielsen’s men didn’t create a lot of chances, but conceded again. Husiev obtained the ball after cross from Belhanda and hit the far bottom corner!

In the second group J fixture of the day Rio Ave FC drew against FC Steaua București away 2:2. Thus Dynamo are leaders of the group after four matchdays with nine points.

Dynamo: to prove that defeat in Denmark was accidental

Dynamo played two games between fixtures against Aalborg. At first the White-Blues defeated FC Karpaty Lviv within the Ukrainian Cup round of 16 second leg (1:0). After that they opposed FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk away in the Ukrainian Premier League top match of the first half of the season.

Kyivans flattened home side (0:3) and came out on top in standings, which means that Serhiy Rebrov’s men didn’t have psychological problems after defeat against Aalborg. The White-Blues will have a chance to prove that failure in Denmark was accidental on Thursday.

Still Dynamo skipper Olexandr Shovkovskyi doesn’t consider the forthcoming game to be a possibility to gain revenge: “We got a serious slap, but now we are just getting ready for the match. We want to demonstrate our best qualities to the maximum. Nobody thinks of revenge. Our main task is to win and to get out of the group eventually”.

“Such games are necessary as they don’t let us relax. I guess winning run made us think that we do everything properly and we stopped working as hard as possible. We’ve made conclusions and I hope such games won’t happen again. That’s good that we lost points in the Europa League, where we can change situation for better”, - stated Oleh Husiev.

“I’m sure that the game in Denmark was an accident, - assures Serhiy Rybalka. - We’ve analyzed in detail what went wrong in away fixture. Danish side main distinctive features are discipline and orderly teamwork. Every performer played for defense. Still I’m sure we must defeat them at home arena. I don’t think Aalborg will change tactics. They’ll focus on counterattacks”.

Ten Dynamo performers took the field in three previous Europa League fixtures: Olexandr Rybka, Aleksandar Dragovic, Domagoj Vida, Mykyta Burda, Serhiy Sydorchuk, Serhiy Rybalka, Younes Belhanda, Jeremain Lens, Andriy Yarmolenko and Artem Kravets.

Aalborg: winning run that started with the game against Dynamo

After the home match against FC Dynamo Kyiv Aalborg BK played three games – two in domestic league and one in the national cup. Kent Nielsen’s men won each of them and didn’t concede a single goal.

It should be mentioned that Kyivans had one more day than Danish side to get ready for the forthcoming fixture.

Nielsen has taken 19 performers to Kyiv:

goalkeepers: Nicolai Larsen, Carsten Christensen;

midfielders: Thomas Enevoldsen, Rasmus Würtz, Thomas Augustinussen, Mathias Wichmann, Kasper Risgård, Nicolaj Thomsen, Andreas Bruhn;
