Ukrainian League

FC Dynamo Kyiv faced FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk within the Ukrainian Premier League matchday 11. It was the top fixture of the first half of the season.

Comparing with the previous game against FC Karpaty Lviv Jeremain Lens, Younes Belhanda, Artem Kravets and Danilo Silva returned to the White-Blues starting lineup.

Both sides started the match actively. They tried to switch from defense to attack quickly, but made a lot of mistakes.

28 minutes into the game visitors opened the score. Belhanda put a cross into the box and Lens headed the ball in – 0:1!

Ten minutes later Dnipro could equalize, but Serhiy Sydorchuk didn’t let the ball cross the line…

After that Kyivans doubled the score! Lens found Yarmolenko with a long ball, Andriy eluded Mazuch and hit the target!

After the break Dnipropetrovsk side had to play aggressively to change the situation for better.

71 minutes into the match Kalinić had a chance to score, but Shovkovskyi saved his team in one-on-one situation.

Later Kyivans used one of their counterattacks. Yarmolenko found Kravets with a straight pass and Artem netted his seventh goal of the season in the UPL.

Five minutes before the time Dnipro skipper Ruslan Rotan got the second booking for the foul against Serhiy Rybalka.

So, Serhiy Rebrov’s men have flattened their opponent away and come out on the Ukrainian Premier League top.

Uncommon acquaintance

For the first Dynamo faced Dnipro away within the Soviet Top League on August 9 1972. That game, which took place at Meteor Stadium, was really dramatic.

The White-Blues controlled the game due to goals netted by Puzach and Kolotov.

Still Dnipro managed to equalize as Porkuian scored brace.

First defeat and victory in Dnipropetrovsk

On April 28 1973 our team lost the first match against Dnipro away. The only goal of that game was scored by Liabik.

It should be mentioned that Meteor Stadium was unassailable fortress for Dynamo for quite a long period of time. Kyivans managed to defeat Dnipro at this stadium only nine years after the first match in Dnipropetrovsk.

On April 4 1981 the White-Blues won by one goal to nil. The decider was netted by Oleh Blokhin from the spot!

After that Dynamo were victorious over Dnipro in Dnipropetrovsk only once in the Soviet Top League (11.08.1984 – 3:1).

Opposite situation in Ukrainian Premier League

First Ukrainian Premier League battle between Dynamo and Dnipro took place in Dnipropetrovsk on May 7 1992. Kyivans won the game due to the goal scored by Oleh Volotiok.

Dnipro made their fans wait for victory against the White-Blues for 12 years. On May 22 2004 they won 1:0. Serhiy Fedorov scored own goal.

Kyivans have won 13 away matches against Dnipropetrovsk side and lost four. Six more games ended in a draw. Goal difference is 36-15.
