UPL. Matchday 6. Zoria – Dynamo. Preview

On Saturday, September 14, FC Dynamo Kyiv will play the 2024/2025 UPL matchday 6 game.

The White-Blues will face FC Zoria Luhansk at the Dynamo Stadium named after Valerii Lobanovskyi. Kick-off – 15:30.

ZORIA

Season start

Zoria had their training camp in Slovenia where they played a number of friendlies (W-2, D-3, L-2).

The UPL season start was quite a success for Luhansk side. At first they beat Inhulets (2:0) and Chornomorets (1:0), but then suffered two defeats in a row – against Oleksandria (1:2) and Rukh (0:3). Still before the international break they succeeded against Obolon (2:0).

At the moment Zoria are sixth in the league table with leaders Oleksandria three points ahead (having one game less)


Pre-season lineup changes

A number of players left Zoria in summer – center back Arsenii Batahov, forward Eduardo Guerrero, halfback Vladyslav Buhai.

On the other hand the club signed Slovenian defender Zan Trontelj, Austrian center back Gabriel Eskinja, halfbacks Tymur Korablin, Vladyslav Vakula, forwards Vladyslav Supriaha and Pylyp Budkivskyi. A number of Dynamo players signed loan agreements with Zoria – defender Oleksii Husiev, halfbacks Oleksandr Yatsyk and Benito, forward Ihor Horbach.

DYNAMO

Season start

Dynamo were getting ready for the season in Austria where they played five friendlies – beat Brondby (4:0) and Mamelodi Sundowns (1:0), drew against Paderborn 07 (0:0) and Schalke 04 (2:2) and lost against Union Berlin (2:3).

Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men postponed the UPL matchday 1 games against Oleksandria and then grabbed three tough wins – against Veres (2:1), Karpaty (3:1) and LNZ (1:0).

As for the Champions League qualification, Kyivans stopped a step from the group stage. After outplaying two opponents (Partizan – 6:2 and 3:0, Rangers – 1:1 and 2:0), Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s men lost against RB Salzburg on aggregate (0:2 and 1:1). Thus this season they’ll perform in the Europa League.

Pre-season lineup changes

This summer only two players who were close to the first team left Dynamo – center back Oleksandr Syrota, who joined Maccabi Haifa, and winger Benito, who was loaned out to Zoria. The rest who left the club weren’t with Dynamo last season – winger Kaheem Parris, right back Mykyta Kravchenko, attacking midfielder Mikkel Duelund, winger Gerson Rodrigues, attacking midfielder Serhii Buletsa, winger Heorhii Tsytaishvili, forward Eric Ramirez, midfielder Oleksandr Yatsyk and forward Ihor Horbach. Vladyslav Supriaha has been loaned out to Luhansk side as well.

Meanwhile Dynamo signed halfbacks Oleksandr Pikhalionok and Valentyn Rubchynskyi, left back/winger Maksym Braharu, center back Brayan Ceballos (loan move), promising Georgian midfielder Aleksandre Peikrishvili, returned from loan move halfback Mykola Mykhailenko. On the last day of the transfer window Panamanian forward Eduardo Guerrero joined Dynamo from Zoria.
