On August 10, FC Dynamo Kyiv started their 2023/2024 euro cups campaign. Our team played the UEFA Europa Conference League 3rd qualifying round first leg against Aris Thessaloniki FC away.
The White-Blues started their performance in this new competition with 0:1 narrow defeat.
Both teams started quite aggressively. Home side were doing better early in the game, supported by their fans. Bushchan coped with the strike by Ferrari while Jules sent the ball wide. Dynamo tried to maintain possession, but didn’t really create scoring opportunities.
Meanwhile Moberg Karlsson appeared in a very promising possession and attempted on target, but Dubinchak blocked his shot with his back. Late in the first half Kyivans got more active, but Aris coped with their attacking efforts.
The second half started with unexpected shot by Moron – the ball went over the bar. Aris were mostly in possession while the White-Blues tried to benefit from set pieces, but failed to. Then Moron crossed into the penalty area and Darida attempted with a header, but Bushchan saved spectacularly.
In the following episode Greek side won a penalty. Fabiano unleashed a header after corner and referee mistakenly decided the ball hit Syrota’s hand. Palma took the penalty, Bushchan reached the ball, but didn’t clear it. Dynamo responded with the shot from Shaparenko, but goalkeeper was there.
Home side had some dangerous free kicks. Fabiano attempted after a cross, but missed a bit. Late in the game Yarmolenko shot decently, but the keeper parried again. In a stoppage time Bushchan saved Dynamo from the second goal as he cleared the ball with his leg.
So, it’s 0:1 – narrow defeat away. The second leg will take place on August 17 in Bucharest.
